Spiritual marker.
There are events and periods in life that shape and mold us. These moments become spiritual markers.
Some of mine include the night I became a follower of Jesus, married my wife, became a father, and started my pastoral ministry. Those are happy positive moments.
Not every spiritual marker is a “happy” memory.
After working for three years on starting a new church, the dream ended. The next two years were difficult. I struggled with self doubt and feelings of failure.
God not did let me stay there! After filling in for a pastor, a friend told me, “You have a gift. Use it!”
I’m not sure what you may be struggling with in your life. God always sees in you the person he intends for you to be!
In the book of Joshua, we read a story about God challenging a young leader and nation to trust him. He then provided a miracle that allowed them to cross a raging river on dry ground (see Joshua 3).
After everyone had crossed the river, Joshua said, “Go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the Lord your God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder—twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel“ (Joshua 4:5).
A simple memorial was created for the nation to remember what God had done.
I encourage you to remember the moments when God did something in your life. Reflect and celebrate them. These spiritual markers will remind you of God’s love, grace, and guidance.
