Not done yet.

A few years ago I bought a used green egg grill. Beyond the typical burger and chicken dishes, I wanted to grill a turkey breast for Thanksgiving. After finding the “perfect” recipe and following it to near perfection, I realized that other variables (colder day) affected the cooking time. Needless to say, the cooking time was a bit longer than expected.

Waiting for the main dish while everything else was ready was disappointing.

Most of us struggle with waiting. We want near instant results. Spiritual growth is a long process. Just when we think or feel we’ve made significant progress in our journey, we hit a brick wall.

Spiritual growth is a lifetime journey.

The journey of spiritual growth is an ongoing process. in Colossians 2:6 we read, “just as you have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.” We are encouraged to let our roots grow down into Jesus and let our lives be built on him.

If we try to reverse the process to focus life on ourselves, we will not grow strong and enjoy life as God intends. When our try to handle life in our strength or power, we will struggle to make sense of what’s going on and rob ourselves of God’s peace.

If you are a follower of Jesus, I encourage you to allow your spiritual roots to grow deeper in him. Read the Bible. Ask him for wisdom and direction. Listen to his voice. And follow Jesus.

Spiritual growth is a marathon. The recipe for “ spiritual doneness” takes time. Give yourself a little grace when struggling. Embrace and enjoy the journey.

God gives you exactly what you need each step of the way!
